Workshop Theatersports - Nov 2008 PDF Print E-mail

Theatresports is improvisation theatre in a sports match format in which actors play sketches based on suggestions from the audience. The workshop, November 25th 2008, was led by Aniek Ivens and it was really great introduction to the wonderful world of theatresports!! For warming up we practiced expressing emotions at various levels of intensity using our body language, we exaggerated the simple gestures to enormous silly figures and tried to communicate using non-existing language of jibberish.

Another exercise explored the very basic essence of the whole Theathersport idea - accepting what others are offering to you - each participant got a 'present' described by gestures, sounds and acting, of another person. One had to guess what it is, accept the gift and make use of it by improvising some situations. Than we proceeded with playing a contrasting roles of kings and beggers, we were put in some situations that required immediate creation of the  story's explanation. We also played famous "Whodunnit" criminal story, but where only gestures and sounds were allowed; we tried to make dubbing for others, or by acting the review with a genious inventor  we helped him guess what he had invented.

During the workshop we were all so involved that we forgot completely about the whole world! The exercises we did required the highest level of creativity, quick reactions, improvisation With such acting actually you can't make any mistakes - all you do is good, and that gave us a great feeling of satisfaction! Not mentioning the fun and laughing we had with each other!

On December 12th, friday, there will be a real theathersport performance in USVA InTheather - you are welcome to join and support the group of Aniek!
