The PhD CardWhat is it? Being able to identify yourself as a student is very useful to get discounts. Additionally, bursaries need a student card to use various facilities such as the University Library. Currently there are two types of cards: - The student card: this is a card that only bursary PhD students received, and is very much comparable to the card that undergraduate and Master's students get. This card is also used as a library card, or as a proof when you want to become an ACLO member. - The PhD card: this is a special card for PhD students, that is available to both bursaries and AiOs. Since this card identifies you as a PhD student, it can also be used to get discounts, or for example, to get an international student card. How to get it? The student card was made available to bursary PhDs every year. This year, bursaries have not received this card, because the University is switching to a new administration system. The expected delivery date for new cards was half-October. However, as far as we know the cards are not available yet, and we will keep you updated as information comes in. The PhD cards are provided by the University. Each PhD student should get an application form at the start of their contract. If you did not receive this application form, you can pick it up at the Personnel Department (P&O) of your faculty. If they cannot provide you with this form, you can contact Mr A.J. Kune from Administration Information Services, at the phone number of (050 363) 5391 or by email Note that the PhD card may have a Grasp logo on it, it does not mean that the cardholder is a Grasp member. Enjoy the PhD card! |
