The ACLO is the student-sports association operating jointly under the auspices of the University of Groningen and the Hanzehogeschool. The association is managed entirely by students. The executive management holds the following positions: Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and a Deputy-Adjunct. Through the activities of the ACLO, the RuG and the Hanzehogeschool offer their students and staff many extra-curricular sporting activities. The ACLO-card is a kind of passport with which you can access these facilities. You could also join one of the 53 sports clubs or simply drop by to one of the two Sports Centres (Zernike sports centre at Blauwborgje No.16, and the Corpushuys at van Swietenlaan No.1) to take part in a course or the designated Open Hours. How to join? The situation concerning the ACLO card has changed a lot in the last months and years. This is the situation in October 2006: - For bursaries: bursaries are considered as students by the ACLO, therefore you can buy an ACLO card for the low student-price of 47 euro.
- For employee PhD's: the ACLO has changed the policy at the end of September 2006. For this year (2007-2008) all PhD students can purchase an ACLO card for the high price of 95 euro. From the academic year 2008-2009 this will change. Then employee PhD's can only become members of the SPR. This is also possible right now, but the policy on SPR members to buy ACLO cards is still unsure.
You can buy your ACLO card at the front desk of the ACLO building on Zernike. Bursaries students can ACLO-tivate their student cards there as well. More information can be found on the website of ACLO: www.aclosport.nl and SPR's website: www.rug.nl/sprsport
